Bridging visas can offer you a lawful stay in Australia in situations where you are not holding any other visa. For example, your current visa has expired but you may have an application with the Department of Home Affairs that is still not decided, or you may have applied for a Merit Review of a visa refusal or visa cancellation decision.

There are 6 types of Bridging Visas ranging from ‘A’ to ‘F’ and each bridging visa is designed for a specific purpose. The entitlements on these visas diminish as you progress further down from A onwards. Details about the most common bridging visas A, B and C and provided below. 

Bridging Visa A (BVA) (010)

This is the bridging visa granted to most applicants who are in Australia at the time of making a visa application

Bridging Visa B (BVB) (020)

A BVB is for persons who hold a BVA and need to travel outside Australia

Bridging Visa C (BVC) (030)

A Bridging Visa C is granted to for persons who are holding a BVA at the time they make an application for another visa.
